What is Gut Health? 

Good health begins in our gut; “our inner eco-system. Bad gut bacteria flourishes not only because of the bad foods we eat, but also because of unhealthy lifestyles, prescription drugs, antibiotics, bad habits, locked emotions, grieving, stress and even our bad thoughts! This can also make our metabolism sluggish, making it more difficult to lose weight or balance out our hormones. The gut is our home to a whopping 80% of our immune system and also manufactures approximately 95% of our serotonin - the neurotransmitter responsible for maintaining mood balance, appetite control, memory and sleep.

Good Gut Bacteria vs. Bad Gut Bacteria

Around 100 trillion good bacteria live in our bodies. Many of these bacteria reside in our gut, helping our body break down food and absorb nutrients and supplements. Not only do we live in harmony with these good bacteria, but they are essential to our survival.

What Causes Bad Gut Bacteria?

Bacterial gastroenteritis happens when bacteria causes an infection in the gut. This causes inflammation in the stomach and intestines. Some contributing factors that can diminish the quality of gut flora and produce bad bacteria would be: a diet high in sugars and refined carbohydrates, ingesting inflammatory foods, stress, the use of prescription drugs and antibiotics, chronic constipation, and gastrointestinal disease.

Gut inflammation leads to “leaky gut” which will allow toxic particles to enter into the blood stream. These foreign invaders put more stress on the immune system as well.  

Do I Need a Health Coach?

A Health Coach is a wellness authority and supportive mentor who motivates individuals to cultivate positive health choices. Health Coaches educate and support clients so that they can achieve their health goals through lifestyle, nutrition, managing stress and behavior adjustments.

I coach my clients to explore basic improvements and implement gradual changes during our work together. As these improvements are made, my clients adjust to small-step changes that begin to become a lasting, lifestyle change.
